GTC Receives Third Aircraft Carrier Contract
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GENERAL ATOMICS SELECTS GENERAL TOOL COMPANY
TO PROVIDE CRITICAL HARDWARE FOR FORD-CLASS CARRIER
Cincinnati, Ohio – October 1, 2018 – General Tool Company (GTC) announced today it has been selected by General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) to deliver critical hardware for the Navy’s Ford-class aircraft carrier, the future USS Enterprise (CVN 80).
This procurement will include Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) items such as the motor support structures, trough covers and other associated components. This award supports GA-EMS’ full production contract award by the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) for delivery of EMALS and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) systems for installation aboard CVN 80, the third of the U.S. Navy’s Ford-class aircraft carriers. EMALS and AAG have been installed on USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), which recently completed sea trials.
EMALS is a complete launch system designed to replace the steam catapults. The electric motor-based AAG system provides for aircraft deceleration during aircraft carrier recovery operations. EMALS and AAG are designed to launch and arrest a broad range of aircraft, while providing higher reliability, greater efficiency and lower maintenance.
