Retired U.S. Navy Submarine Captain Addresses GTC Employees on Mission, Process, and Teamwork

October 29 2021, by Pete Borden

On August 26, retired U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine Captain Frank Stewart addressed General Tool Company (GTC) employees, sharing insight into the critical role U.S. submarines play in maintaining global security and ensuring the safe, uninterrupted flow of worldwide commerce.

During his distinguished naval career, Captain Stewart commanded three submarines, including the nuclear ballistic missile submarine USS Henry M. Jackson (SSBN-730). He provided an in-depth overview of the diverse missions submarines undertake and explained the complex systems and operations that make these vessels among the most advanced and strategically important assets in the U.S. Navy.

Captain Stewart drew clear parallels between submarine operations and GTC’s work in advanced manufacturing. He emphasized the importance of disciplined adherence to established processes, mission-focused execution, and the necessity of proper training and a strong organizational culture to ensure success—whether operating a submarine or supporting mission-critical defense programs.

The event concluded with a team lunch catered by Mission BBQ, providing employees the opportunity to continue conversations and reflect on the shared values of accountability, precision, and teamwork.
